So, as you may have seen from previous posts, the digital converter is doing quite a good job and I’m pleased with the progress I’ve made so far.
That said, converting, processing, editing, and uploading each reel of film takes several hours, so it will probably be a few months before the project is completed.
Video Hosting
I’ve opted to host the movies right here on this website rather than use a third-party service like YouTube or Vimeo. This involves a few extra dollars for hosting per month, but I think it’s worth it for the ad-free video experience and the extra controls and options.
Sharing and Downloading
You can use the social media share button on the bottom of blog posts to easily share the posts and videos.
Alternatively, if you click the “Share” button on the video player itself, you’ll be able to grab a direct video link that you can share on social media or elsewhere. You can also grab the embed code to plug the video into a blog or website.
And, clicking the share button on the video gives you the option to download a copy of the original file to your computer. If you have decent download speeds and room on your hard-drive, I’d encourage you to download copies. The more copies that are floating around, the better for future generations, perhaps. But do be aware that they are quite large files.

Music
I think backing music adds an extra dimension to these old films. But, it’s not easy to find music that is legal and ethical to use. Of course, I could just use music from my own collection, but this breaches copyright and is not fair on the artists who created the work. There is quite a lot of creative commons music available that can be freely used in personal video projects like these. But, alas, a lot of it is so abysmally bad that my ears actually started to bleed profusely while I was trying to find suitable tracks to use. You get what you pay for.
To that end, I’ve subscribed to a site called Audio Hero. These guys give you fifty music and sound effect downloads per month for $9.99 US, which is quite reasonable. And the music quality is pretty good.
Raw Footage
If anybody would like the raw unedited footage that I’ve digitized for their own projects, just flick me an email. These are quite large files and, unfortunately, because of the very slow uploads speeds I have here, it will be difficult for me to make all of the original files available as downloads in the short term.
However, in the meantime, I can put them on a USB drive and post them to you. Just let me know.
